Freedom doesn’t come from being disconnected from obligation, it comes from being connected to something bigger.

It’s not nostalgia, it’s an origin story.

Welcome to the Club

I promise not to make everything about me, or to even continue writing in the first person whenever humanly possible. But as we try and kick this thing off, I feel the need to explain myself. Sidewalk Surf Club is an idea that I’ve been mulling for the better part of the last 12 years, since my wife and I lived in a tiny apartment in Nashville, Tennessee where I was pursuing a different long-term vision of myself.

FEATURED GEAR

Sidewalk Smell Club - Burnside
$25.00

Hand-poured in Atlanta, this bad boy is 7oz of soy wax and evergreen that will take you closer to the Pacific Northwest with every whiff.

"I brake for waxed curbs" bumper sticker
$5.00

Slap it on the family truckster to let the folks behind you know that traffic might get a little worse if there’s a buttery slappy curb in the vicinity. This adhesive little miracle is 6 inches wide, and 2 inches tall.

Founding Membership
$100.00

Let’s make it official. We’re offering a limited number of “founding memberships” to help make sure we can raise the appropriate level of stoke in this community. Founding members will receive a forever discount, and have first dibs on new gear, events, and lots of other very sick perks we haven’t thought of yet. Maybe we’ll even get jackets.

Money from the memberships will go towards paying an actual designer, producing our first line of gear, and (fingers crossed) getting a run of club decks pressed.

…and jackets.

IN EVERY ONE OF US, THERE WAS ONCE A MOMENT WHERE WE TASTED FREEDOM FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME. IT WASN’T ABOUT CHILDHOOD, OR A LACK OF RESPONSIBILITY. IT WAS THE FULL FEELING OF THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THE WORLD WAS YOURS TO DO WITH WHAT YOU WOULD.

IT WAS THE FEELING OF FLYING.

AROUND THE CLUB

■

Joshua Fletcher, Founder

Josh got his first skateboard, a pink Nash with plastic trucks, as a Christmas gift from his grandmother. That board, along with a secondhand copy of “Skateboard Super Stunts,” acquired from a family friend, ignited a life-long passion that has given shape and color to every part of his life since then. After realizing in his teens that a career as a professional skateboarder was probably not in the cards, Josh pursued his other passion, making music, to a mild degree of commercial success before crashing out and getting a real job.

Despite the winding path, Josh never quit skateboarding. And although it takes him a little longer to recover these days, he can still be found boosting an ollie over the fire hydrant at the local DIY when his knees cooperate.

Sidewalk Surf Club was born from a desire to reconnect with skateboarding on a deeper level and rekindle some of the raw stoke and camaraderie of those formative years, but with jobs and kids and stuff.

"There's an intrinsic value in creating something for the sake of creating it."

Rodney Mullen
